The Moyo 1 is named after my grandmother. I spent a great number of weekends at her home in a township. She had recently turned 100 the first time I wrote this caption. Unfortunately, she passed away at 100, in a country with a life expectancy of 62. She was the matriarch of the family, and the reason my mum got an education, and the reason we were able to have the lives we have now. I miss her every day.

Not only is this shoe a tribute to who she is, but to the role she played in my life in turning me into the person that I am.

"If someone gives you a safety pin," she would often say, "it means that person thought of you enough to know you needed it, and to give it to you."

This is the essence of a life of gratitude she instilled in me. So in that spirit, and the essence of who I am because of her, these are a thank you.
