Zimbabwe Surf Team for Cyclone Idai

Zimbabwe Surf Team for Cyclone Idai

Zimbabwe Surf Team

WHY SHOULDN'T ZIMBABWE HAVE A SURF TEAM? I have snowboarded consistently since 2003. Every week for the first 8 years the same people (not a euphemism) would ask me if it was my first time?! People of color are not only seen as monolithic but contemporary TV/film furthers this ideologue. The Rad Black Kids not only reject that assessment but we want to be the outfitters of your non-monolithic, define your damn self life.

Zimbabwe not only is my homeland, but is a country that is pretty cosmopolitan. My first skateboard was a ninja turtles themed board with Donatello on the bottom and plastic rails, which was given to my by my dad in Zvishavane Zimbabwe when I was 4 in 1990. Now, not only do I see a plethora of black kids in Long Beach that skateboard, but there is a growing movement of marginalized groups that not only are into action sports, but compete at high levels.

Lets start this exercise as a dedication to all the boys and girls of the motherland who shred waves.

This sweatshirt is dropping this week due to what has become known as the "worst cyclone in the history of the Southern Hemisphere!" Unfortunately not only are the rates of extreme weather incidents increasing, but also, they are affecting already at risk communities.

This image is of a bridge that has been downed over the Umvumvu River in Chimanimani, Zimbabwe. The downing of these bridges has caused limited access to emergency response services in critically affected areas in Zimbabwe. This is due to cyclone Idai has ravaged Mozambique and Zimbabwe. 1000 people are feared dead in Mozambique. 100 people are feared dead in Zimbabwe. 10% of each sale will be donated to MSF (Doctors Without Borders) who have created a stabilization center 20km away from Chimanimani Zimbabwe, due to destroyed bridges. MSF will be providing medical supplies, water and sanitation support!
