Le Marais Coaches Jacket
In 2013 I made the bold declaration after deciding to pursue The Rad Black Kids full time I told myself I'd be in Paris that New Year's Eve. Didn't make it, curiously enough though I got a million hits on December 31st on Fancy.com (a site I was on at the time). I took it as the omen it is, hustled for a few years, ended up in Paris in November 2016. The social construct of Paris stuck out to me the most. The concept of race (due to the perception of being American) and social class being determined by race was a completely antithetical to the American contemporary construct. Paris felt open, accepting, bad service at restaurants was just bad for everyone, not just for me and the expectations afforded to me by norms nay stereotypes. My soul had never been at such peace. I wasn't the only black American who had felt this way: Josephine Baker, James Baldwin, Nina Simone, and Melvin Sanders had relocated to Paris for greater reasons yes, but similar reasons at their core.
It is only fitting that in time our first The Rad Black Kids "Ideation Studio" will open in Le Marais. If the theme of this journey is visualization and working to make this a reality, why not open in the City of Light.
